Company ProfileHISTORY OF WIND IN THE WILLOWS NURSERY The vision for Wind in the Willows Nursery started in the early 1990’s in Brunswick County, NC. Grady Roscoe designed landscapes for golf courses and residential developments. As the work progressed it seemed that the plants wanted were harder and harder to find in the sizes that were needed. At some of the golf courses, nurseries were started to be sure of having the plants in the correct sizes when needed. After moving to Bethune, SC, and having owned an operated a hunting preserve, Grady's vision remained in “Mothballs” until he retired from the hunting preserve business and started growing trees for the landscapers in the Carolinas. To start with it was only going to be a few native trees, water and willow oaks, American Hollies, river birch, redbuds and dogwoods. The second year a few hundred crepe myrtle and magnolia grandiflora, Nellie R. Stevens and Emily Bruner Hollies as well as other trees were added and before the year was out there were a few thousand trees. Two thousand and six saw the addition of several thousand junipers and other shrubs. By this time, Grady's new endeavor morphed into a wholesale nursery in only three years. Mary Roscoe thought that the nursery should have a new name to go with the new location on the 36 acres set aside for it. Thus the birth of “Wind in the Willows Nursery”. Two thousand and seven will see the addition of approximately 10,000 to 20,000 new plants to grow off and several thousand trees ready for the market. Come see what is growing at “Wind in the Willows Nursery.”
